As part of the commemoration of the 15th anniversary of Celia Cruz’s passing, FOREVER CELIA is being presented in Miami—a historic exhibition showcasing 120 of the singer’s personal items never before seen by the public. Among them is a photograph of the legendary artist in a swimsuit, an image that her executor, Omer Pardillo, didn’t dare to share until after her death.

American Museum of de Cuban Diaspora

DEC 13, 2018 - MAR 31, 2019

More than 400 people gathered at The Cuban (American Museum of the Cuban Diaspora), located on Coral Way, for the opening cocktail reception of a unique exhibition. For the first time, the public has the chance to view six decades of Celia Cruz’s personal belongings. On display are dozens of her vibrant costumes, platform shoes, and her iconic colorful wigs—red, purple, and even bright green—that reflect the joyful and affectionate spirit of this legendary Cuban artist. As an exile, Celia traveled the world spreading a message of hope and pride for her people. The exhibit also features family photographs, awards, and her very first passport, issued at the start of her career with La Sonora Matancera.

Over the course of a career that spanned six decades and took her from humble beginnings in Havana, Cuba to a world-renowned artist in the United States, Celia Cruz became the undisputed Queen of Latin Music. Combining a piercing and powerful voice with a larger-than-life personality and stage costumes, she was one of the few women to succeed in the male dominated world of Salsa music. This exhibition featured costumes and other objects, photographs, and music samples from throughout her career.
