Celebrated and loved Cuban artists’ portraits will be showcased on a photographic exhibition at the Annenberg Space for Photography in Los Angeles.

Alexis Rodrigues-Durate, in collaboration with Tico Torres, have been invited to participate in this exhibition, entitled Cuba Is, curated by Iliana Cepero. The exhibit is part of the Getty Museum’s Pacific Standard Time LA/LA which is a citywide event with over 100 institutions in Los Angeles featuring Latin-American art.

Cuba Is opens on 8 September 2017 and runs through 4 March 2018. The Annenberg has chosen a portfolio of eight portraits from the Cuba Out of Cuba series. Included in their selection is what the Smithsonian Institution’s National Portrait Gallery has called the “iconic photograph of Celia Cruz” (“¡Yo soy de Cuba la voz – Guantanamera!”) from the cover of the book, Presenting Celia Cruz.

Alexis Rodriguez-Duarte’s and Tico Torre’s The Cuba Out of Cuba portrait series began in 1994 and features Cuban artists, musicians, writers, actors, fashion designers, etc. that have lived or are living outside of Cuba.
