Celia, la serie is a telenovela produced by Fox Telecolombia for RCN Televisión and Telemundo.

The story is is based on the life of Celia Cruz and her amazing journey and artistic success. The telenovela’s theme “La Negra Tiene Tumbao” received an award for Television Theme Song of the Year, at the 2016 American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers Awards.

Celia tells her amazing story, but also combines tribulations and some colorful fictional characters. We know the beginnings of her passion for singing in Cuba in the late fifties and her recognition as the most decisive singer of La Sonora Matancera. Leaving Cuba with her husband Pedro Knight, the series showcases how her career conquered markets in other languages as she became one of the most recognized Salsa singers of all time. The telenovela showcases her love and longing for her Cuban country hoping a change would come during her lifetime. Celia Cruz has become an invaluable legacy in the world in which she had been crowned as the Queen of Guarachera around the world.

The serie was nominated for several Premios “Tu Mundo” 2016, such as best novela and others, and won the award for Favorite Actress, Carolina Gaitán.
