Celia Cruz was the undisputed “Queen of Salsa,” with the Cuban-born singer amassing a careers-worth of hits and accolades, including a Grammy Lifetime Achievement award, and a Presidential Medal of Arts. Cruz was also the recipient of another “honor” last year, with Mattel releasing an official Celia Cruz Barbie doll.
Originally released last September, the Barbie doll quickly sold out. But retailers like Amazon and Walmart have the Celia Cruz doll back in stock right now, timed to Hispanic Heritage Month.

Barbie Inspiring Women Celia Cruz Doll
Part of Barbie’s “Inspiring Women” series, the Celia Cruz doll features the salsa singer dressed in a fiery red lace dress with dramatic sleeve and gold heels. Her glamorous style is embodied in the glittery necklace and earrings, while her hair is swept up into a chic, concert-ready ‘do.
Mattel says they went to great lengths to pay tribute to “La Reina de la Salsa,” with her signature shimmery eyeshadow and red lipstick. They also put a golden microphone in her hand, as an homage to the numerous awards she has collected over the years. This officially-licensed set comes with a doll stand, collectible box and certificate of authenticity.
Amazon says hundreds of people have purchased this Celia Cruz doll in the last few weeks and quantities are limited, so we recommend adding to cart now (if it’s sold out on Amazon, you can also find it at Walmart, though at a slightly higher price). See full details here.
“As a stage performer, on-screen actor, and recording artist who succeeded in a male-dominated music scene, Celia Cruz is also known as the ‘Latin Triple Threat,'” Mattel wrote in an Instagram post last year. “Her long and storied career serves as an endless inspiration for aspiring musicians.”
One of the greatest voices of all time, Cruz died in 2003 at the age of 77.
